Welcome to TCHS ESPORTS!
2023-2024 TCHS ESports
What is ESports?
ESports, or electronic sports, is the world of competitive and organized video gaming. The Esports industry averages roughly 29.6 million viewers monthly and is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. The Mississippi High School Activities Association, MHSAA, started the ESports program during the 2019-2020 school year. In just one year, the ESports field in the state of Mississippi has grown by 40% and will likely continue to grow more each year. The MHSAA partnered with PlayVS to host all ESports competitions in the state of Mississippi. PlayVS manages the schedules, displays team and player stats, and provides real-time support for coaches. Coaches can add and arrange players to build optimal lineups. Similar to traditional sports, PlayVS holds a Fall and Spring season during the school year. However, each season will have its own league champion.
What are the benefits of ESports?
Esports requires a tremendous amount of critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity from players to achieve and sustain success. With easy access and a low cost of entry, esports reaches beyond traditional sports to create an all-inclusive environment that breaks barriers. Engaged students perform better in school. Esports has the unique ability to appeal to and engage a wider audience. For many of our players, esports is the first time they've participated in a coaching or athletic activity.
